In Loving Memory

Cole-
So today marks the sixth year since you left us, I can’t help but wonder why you were chosen to leave this world so soon. As with any death, I know there are no real reasons why, and this is a reality that I have slowly come to accept. I believe whole heartedly that you are in a peaceful place, and you watch over those of us who cared so much for you. Unfortunately, having this belief does not take away the heartbreak, pain, and the reminded sense that someone special is missing from everyday simple moments as well as the memorable important ones. I am determined to have a happy and fulfilling life, but these past years and years to come, just won’t be the same without you. Being faced with your sudden death has made me a better, stronger person. It has made me undoubtedly aware of how precious life is, and that it should never be taken for granted. I wish I could say the same for the people that were present during your last breaths! Although I don’t know the names of all 13 individuals that were present at the “drug house” where you died, the ones I do know of don’t seem to have learned from your death. This saddens me in ways, but at other times sickens me. I attempt to avoid putting blame on the so called “friends” that were there with you, I’m sure no one forced you to overdose. I do blame them for not seeking help for you sooner, and lying to police about how you obtained Methadone and the other drugs that contributed to your death. I can’t help but think “What if that were their sibling or themselves. How would they expect someone to react?” In my opinion, that is a burden they will have to carry, and they one day will face a much harsher judgment than mine.

Our society is plagued with drug abuse. Whether thru alcohol, drugs, or other addictions, most everyone is continually trying to alter their mood, to escape from their reality, which in turn, generally makes their true reality a worse one. (myself included at times in my life) This is another circumstance where I ask “Why?” …………
Unfortunately drug overdose has not only affected my family, but also the families of others I know.
