In Loving Memory

My son Joey passed away on Friday evening the night of 09/11/11. After work on a Friday night my son went to a "friends" house, five eighteen year olds, one seventeen year old and my son-eighteen. The mother of the home was away for the weekend, as she does every weekend according to the police report. Apparently, Joey got on his bike to go to the local 7-11 and fell off. The kids picked him up off the ground and tried to revive him by putting Joey in the shower, hooking him up to a heart/pulse rate machine and watching him closely all night. Not one of the six people at that house called 911, drove him to the hospital, called his brother, sister or myself. The next day, Saturday afternoon, the younger sister, a fourteen year old came home from a sleep over and discovered my son’s body and she called 911 around noon. The six people at the house were all there. The detective stated that the house was spotless. I was called by his girlfriend after Joey arrived at the ER. The police report is all I have. I did not know these kids well; however they are known drug users according to the Tarpon P.D. No arrests have been made to this day. Joey was a senior at Tarpon Springs High School. He has a 4.0 GPA, Varsity Football and a part time job for two years. This college bound athlete had so much going for him it just breaks my heart that none of the six people called 911 for fear of going to jail because of illegal drug use. On 09/12/11 the brain scan results were negative and my son was pronounced dead. A toxic combination of oxycodone and Fentanyl shut down his kidneys and his heart. On 09/13/11 we took Joey off the life support, his football number is 13. Attached please find a picture of Joey and his younger sister. Last summer we were on our family vacation together, eight days 24/7 we were all together. Friends don’t let friends die. I thank you for letting me share my story. Joey saved my brothers life. I didn't know it till I saw the picture but I went to school with your daughter. My brother talked about Joey to me and I'd been to his final resting place. I'm sorry for your loss I truly am. But I'll always be thankful for Joey because if this never happened I have no doubt I'd be without my brother. |
Joey, many many blessings to you and those who love you. You are never alone. |
He is an angel now. Watching over all his family and friends. Rest in peace. |
Joey was one of my students in high school. He passed away a few weeks after my 17-year-old daughter died from drugs. May we both see our precious children again. |
Many, many blessings to you and your family, Joey. You are never alone. |
I didn't know Joey, Angela, but I just happened across the video tribute to him on You Tube while looking for something completely unrelated. After I found out what happened to him, I almost couldn't believe it. I, too, lost my sister, Becky, in a similar fashion in January of 2008. She also put a Fentynyl(sp?) patch in her mouth and was found dead a day or so later -- also on a Friday night. I truly feel your pain and can only imagine what it must be like to lose a son with so much promise as Joey. You have my deepest condolences...Kevin |
