In Loving Memory

People look upon drug users as if they are the scum beneath their shoes, not worth a second look in their direction, and their deaths not worth mourning. My brother, Derik M. Lawley, suffered on daily basis for over three years with his demons. He loved his family, his daughter, but did not love his life. Heroin helped Derik escape his reality. He truly tried with his might to tell his body that the fixes were not worth it, but his body out weighed his heart each and every time he took the needle. The first shot of heroin was indeed a choice, introduced by another addict, but his body chose after that first shot, and beating his habit with his previously diagnosed mental instability was not going to be an option. I was not ashamed of my brother's death being ruled an accidental suicide by overdose and explaining thus, but rather ashamed of myself for not going the extra mile to save him.

This year I was able to get our school to do a little more for Red Ribbon Week than in previous years. The work I put into warning others was for you my love.
I miss you evvery day! |
